The Breaking of the Ruler
It was a normal school lesson, so Brother Geoffrey thought. He had in his possession, a bright yellow plastic ruler. He was bored, and began to strike his line drawing implement on the desk in front of him. Brother Andrew noticed him doing so, and challenged that he could do better - he grabbed the ruler and struck it hard against the desk; it was at that moment the ruler broke, and in breaking, formed the bond that is now the brotherhood of the illuminated ruler.
The Forming of the Brotherhood
Brother Geoffrey and Brother Andrew knew something incredible had happened - they could feel a surge of power whenever the pieces of the ruler were placed together. They decided to have a piece of the ruler each, and they also gave me a piece; thus the brotherhood was formed. But there are still spare pieces...
Caring for the Ruler
Several attemtps to steal a piece of the ruler have been made by non members, but they have all been thwarted; nobody can break the brotherhood. If the idea of trying to steal a piece of the ruler ever even crosses your mind, you are condemed.
Forming the Whole Ruler
Occassionally, we decide to put the pieces of the ruler together, and form the whole thing. We salute the ruler (with the salute of the brotherhood*) and feel its overwhelming power take a grip on all around us - it is a truely maginificent phenominon.
* To show our respect, when the ruler is mentioned, or produced by one of the brothers, we salute it. The right hand is formed into a fist and placed on the right cheek.
